Pre-Treatment Instruction
What is a PDO Thread Lift?
A PDO thread lift is a non-surgical treatment that uses fine, biodegradable threads to interact with the skin. The threads may assist in the appearance of skin firmness and texture. PDO threads are not used to reposition or lift sagging tissue.

How does it work?
Biodegradable threads are inserted into the skin and act as a temporary scaffold. As the threads naturally dissolve, they may support the skin’s own collagen and elastin production. This process may assist in the appearance of skin firmness and texture. Individual responses and outcomes vary, and suitability for treatment is assessed during a consultation with a qualified healthcare professional.

Is it safe?
PDO threads are made from a biodegradable, biocompatible material that has been used safely in medical applications for many years. PDO mono threads used in Australia are TGA-approved medical devices and are regulated for use in Australia and used in accordance with clinical guidelines when administered by a qualified practitioner

PDO Threds
What happens during treatment?

A local anaesthetic may be applied to the entry points to help minimise discomfort. Once the area is prepared, PDO mono threads are carefully placed into the skin using a fine needle. The threads act as a temporary scaffold and interact with the skin’s natural processes. The procedure is minimally invasive, and treatment times vary depending on the areas being addressed.

Which areas can be treated?

PDO threads may be used in various areas of the face and neck. Common areas include the forehead, brows, cheeks, smile lines, marionette lines, jawline, chin, and neck. These threads are intended to support skin structure rather than reposition tissue.
What results can I expect?

Changes develop gradually over several weeks. Temporary effects such as redness, swelling, tenderness, or mild bruising at the treatment sites are common and usually resolve within a few days. Some clients may notice temporary tightness or sensitivity in the treated area. Individual responses vary, and outcomes cannot be guaranteed.

Treatment may not be suitable if:
Treatment may not be suitable if you:
-
Have active acne, broken skin, infections, or are prone to cold sores in the area being treated
-
Have consumed alcohol within 48 hours prior to treatment

Treatment is not suitable if:

-
Are pregnant or breastfeeding
-
Have an autoimmune condition, diabetes, or an active infection

Most clients can resume normal activities immediately.
-
Mild discomfort can be managed with paracetamol if needed.
-
Avoid other aesthetic procedures (toxins, fillers, chemical peels) for 7 days.
-
Avoid extreme temperatures, alcohol, and non-essential anticoagulants for 7 days. Clients on prescribed anticoagulants (e.g., aspirin, warfarin) should continue as advised but note bruising may be more likely.
-
Gently wash the treated area, but avoid rubbing or massaging for 2 weeks.
-
Avoid overstretching the treated area (e.g., wide mouth movements or dental procedures) for 4 weeks.
-
Avoid heat-based treatments (radiofrequency, IPL, laser) near the treated area for 10 weeks.

General aftercare advice:

-
Some pain/discomfort after treatment can be expected, Paracetamol can be taken if required.
-
Do not have any other aesthetic procedures (such as toxins, fillers, peels etc.) for 7 days
-
Avoid extreme temperatures, alcohol and anticoagulants for 7 days. Those taking Prescribed anticoagulants such as aspirin/warfarin must continue to do so but must be aware that bruising is more likely
-
Gently wash the treated area as required, but do not rub or massage for 2 weeks
-
It is important not to overstretch the treated area (i.e. open the mouth wide) for 4 weeks (avoid dental treatment during this time if possible)
-
Do not have Radio-frequency, IPL, Laser or other heat treatments near the treated area for 10 weeks
Are there any side effects?

PDO thread procedure times are typically short, and downtime varies between individuals. Because the threads are inserted using fine needles, there are no incisions or stitches, and scarring is unlikely.
Common, temporary effects may include:
-
Mild redness or swelling
-
Tenderness at the treatment sites
-
Minor bruising
Some clients may also notice a temporary feeling of tightness or sensitivity in the treated area. These effects usually settle within a few days. Individual experiences can vary, and your healthcare professional will provide guidance on what to expect and how to care for the treated area.

Frequently Asked Questions
1. What are PDO mono threads and how do they work?
PDO mono threads are TGA-approved medical devices used to interact with the skin’s internal structure. They are not used to lift or reposition tissue. As the threads dissolve over several months, they may encourage the body’s natural collagen and elastin processes. Individual responses vary.
2. What should I expect during the clinical procedure?
The procedure is minimally invasive, using fine needles to place the threads strategically. Local anaesthetic is applied to minimise discomfort. Most sessions last 30–60 minutes depending on the number of threads and areas treated.
3. What is the recovery process like for thread treatments?
Most clients can resume normal activities immediately. Temporary redness, swelling, bruising, or mild tightness in the treated area may occur. Specific aftercare instructions will be provided to support healing and reduce the risk of complications.
4. When are the intended results typically visible?
PDO thread changes develop gradually over several weeks. Initial changes in skin firmness or texture may be observed in the weeks following treatment. The threads themselves dissolve over 3–4 months, but individual outcomes and duration of any effects vary.
